I think the purpose of headphones is for you to enjoy the music but that's just my opinion. If letting you hear outside sounds as well as the music is what you're looking for then so it should be. If those cannot be produced due to technological limitations then how about a pair of in(or on) ear headphones that allow sound to pass through so that while biking I will be less of a hazard to myself and those around me.
