5 things to know before going into the studio.
Posted on July 08, 2010 by Jamey Warren in Miscellaneous | No Comments
1. Have the arrangement of your song planned out. The best way to do this is to chart it down including the chord changes. As much information as possible will save you time and money in the studio.
2. Know the tempo’s of your songs. Make sure you and your band practice with a metronome. This one always seems to be very difficult to really make happen but is probably one of the biggest things that separates the pros from the amateurs.
3. Determine in advance who will play solo’s and how long the solo will last.
4. Often times it takes just as long to mix your recording as it does to actually record it. Sometimes even longer. Depending on the studio you go to, there may be some more steps you need to take before it’s ready to go to press.
5. Be on time. Many studio’s bill you for the actual time you book the studio so be sure to arrive early with all of the accessories you need to perform your best. New sticks, drum heads, water, guitar strings, picks, snacks, and whatever else you can think of that you might need.
Watercolor

Here’s a watercolor of me playing bass while the 30-ot-Hix were playing at Pine Creek. I’m surprised at how much I look like my dad, particularly his album cover for You Got The World on a String which was illustrated by his friend Eugene Kenny Wilson.
A Headphone Geek's Dream Job @ HeadRoom

I recently accepted a full time position as product development manager for HeadRoom, the center of the headphone universe. At least that’s what I see one of my biggest challenges to be, that is making sure HeadRoom is the number one place for all things headphone. I’m super excited to be working there again and look forward to collaborating with their diverse and talented crew. Though this is not necessarily that new for me as I have been consulting with HeadRoom for several months and was previously employed in a variety of positions for four years. I took a short break for a couple of years to focus on my own personal and professional goals. Now I’m back and I’ve realized how inline HeadRoom’s goals are with mine and can’t wait to get the ball rolling.
The hardest part for me has been focusing my efforts on what is most important. While there are a lot of reasons why a product may or may not see the light of day, here is a small opportunity for you to influence the future of what HeadRoom has to offer.
What would your favorite headphone related product look like?
